Bye Bye Baby producer Gary Mullins answers your questions:
1) How did you end up performing in BBB?
I was the original guitar player for BBB and introduced by an associate
of Marc Ryzer, the show’s creator. Since those early days I’ve replaced
the stage with co-producer responsibilities owing to my experience in
running other entertainment outfits.
2) What is the hardest bit of preparing the role?
Keeping track of all of the moving parts in the show, and for many
shows throughout the year. It’s an admin intensive task, and especially
having come through the pandemic from which we are still feeling the
effects.
3)What do you enjoy most about the show?
It’s a labour of love and a real sense of pride seeing such exceptional
music being performed by top performers as a direct result of hard
work you’ve had a hand in.
4) What do you do when not performing?
Marc and I have the task of keeping the wheels turning between shows.
We both have a variety of other commitments as well as Bye Bye Baby,
so much plate spinning is happening in the background!
5) What would you like to tell the audience?
Thank you for sticking with us! The last couple of years have been
tough for the whole industry, so thank you for coming back out to
support theatre. We look forward to seeing you at a show soon!
6) What’s your favourite song in the show?
My Eyes Adored You
7) Which is your favourite costume?
The red jackets are iconic!
8)Tell us your favourite Frankie Valli quote or lyric?
“Becoming successful is a relentless pursuit”
9)What has been your funniest on stage moment?
When playing guitar in the show, one of the singers made a rather
enthusiastic lunge which ended with a split in his trousers… fair play he
finished the show and many chuckles were had with audience and cast
alike!
10) What is the best bit of touring?
Seeing the appreciation for the music of FV throughout the country.
Also seeing returning faces in multiple venues throughout a tour is a
privilege as well!
11) And what is the worst? The long drives can be pretty tough, but a
good podcast or company and you’re all set!
12) What are your 3 tour essentials and why? Phone charger, podcasts
and black socks! No good going on stage with white socks!
13) What would you be doing if you were not in BBB ? Running another
show!
14) When did you first come to know and love FV?
The Jersey Boys experience was profound in illustrating just how many
great songs came out of this group and its internal partnerships.
Amazing!
15) What song/s that are not in the show would you love to perform?
Under My Skin is a lovely tune. We used to perform it but swapped it
out for some new material.
16) Where is the most interesting/unique place you have performed?
A residency in South Africa was something to remember!
17) Have you ever met FV? Sadly not, but would love to thank him for
the wonderful music!
18) What is your favourite fact about FV? Joe Pesci introduced
songwriter Bob Gaudio to the other Four Seasons members!
19) What is your dream as a performer? Keep doing what I’m doing!
20) Tell us a fun fact about yourself! My childhood home phone number
